About the Alamo Empire
The Royal, Sovereign and Imperial Court of
the Alamo Empire, Inc. was founded in 1990 by a group of hard working
individuals that wanted to combine the fun and frivolity of a social group with
the serious task of raising funds for the San Antonio community.
The Alamo Empire, Inc is a proud member of
the United Courts of Texas, which is comprised of Courts in Austin, Corpus
Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Waco and of course the River City, San
Antonio. These courts are all members of International Court System, (ICS) that
was founded in San Francisco in 1965, by Empress I Jose Sarria, the Widow
Norton.
In addition to the Texas Courts, there are
Courts in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Although we are affiliated with an
international organization, each court is a self governing organization in its
own right. Each court is required by Empress I Jose Sarria and the International
Court Council to be a non-profit body governed by a Board of Directors that
answers to the community it serves.
From the beginning, The Alamo Empire has
crowned an Emperor and an Empress each year at a gala event known as Coronation.
Coronation is the Alamo Empire’s biggest event of the year. This event
celebrates the successes of the reigning monarchs year of fund raising and also
the crowning of their successors. Coronation Ball is a formal event that blends
the splendor of a royal gala with the fun and entertainment of a true San
Antonio party. The Alamo Empire invites the San Antonio Community to join in the
excitement. During this weekend the Alamo Empire hosts members of the ICS and
guests from across the country, Canada and Mexico. The monarchs serve as
co-chairs of the organization and are charged with the responsibility of raising
money for charitable organizations. The Monarchs must hold functions, membership
meetings and fundraisers for the enjoyment of the community and through these
efforts, provide assistance for those in need. In addition, the Monarchs travel
thousands of miles each year to attend other court’s functions and serve as
goodwill ambassadors for the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender Community
of San Antonio.
The court has an outstanding record of
community service and financial contributions to San Antonio. The Alamo Empire,
Inc. has raised in excess of $375,000.00 since it’s inception for agencies such
as: Gay & Lesbian Community Center SA, BEAT AIDS, Hope Action Care, Metropolitan
Community Church SA, Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation, Pink Ribbon Project, Alamo
AIDS Resource Center, Make A Wish Foundation, BullFrog Benevolence Fund, NAMES
Project, San Antonio AIDS Foundation, Women’s AIDS Task Force, Jennifer’s Camp,
Providence Children's Home, Krissie’s Kids, Amethyst Scholarship Foundation,
American Veterans for Equal Rights just to name a few. As you can see, we work
hard but we also have a lot of fun in what we do!
